Each question scores 0-4 → total 0 to 12. More points, higher risk.

Interpretation
< cutoff Low risk
No specific intervention. Brief advice if appropriate.
≥4 M / ≥3 F Hazardous use
Brief intervention. If dependence is suspected, apply the full AUDIT (10 items).
The cutoff is sex-specific (≥4 men, ≥3 women). To rule out dependence, use the full 10-item AUDIT.
